Meet the Partners: CESIE

The world is only one Creature

Hello everyone! We are Martina Romano – Project Manager at the School Unit – and Irene Pizzo – School Unit coordinator – from CESIE.

CESIE is a European Centre of Studies and Initiatives, centre for the development of cultural, recreational, social, educational, economical research initiatives without lucrative purposes. It contributes, through the active participation of people, civic society and institutions, towards the promotion of growth and development, always valuing diversity.

CESIE is located in the heart of Palermo, where it benefits from a broad network of partners among civil society organisations, universities, schools, research centres, public authorities and private entities, youth centres, companies and entrepreneurs.

In our daily work, we apply the teaching of Danilo Dolci who developed innovative educational nonviolent methods (such as the “strike in reverse” – working without pay – through which individuals initiated unauthorized public works projects, by and for the grass-roots in the ‘50s in Sicily).

Within the School Unit, our priority is to maximise the well-being of students and teachers, enhancing teachers’ professional development and, at the same time, supporting them in dealing with diversity in the classroom, by adopting collaborative and innovative practices & strengthening leadership in education. Our attention is also focused on students, supporting schools to tackle early school leaving (ESL) and disadvantage and to offer quality education, enabling success for all.

ArtEd is absolutely in line with our priorities: the project gives us the possibility to create an environment of trust and confidence, and to bring new educational tools and approaches into schools that will improve the well-being of students and teachers.
